This passage shows me that Miss Maudie believes that the people in Maycomb are isolated and do not know how to think for themselves , but always follow what other people think even if it’s  the wrong thing or it’s bad.

“We’re the safest people in the world” when Miss Maudie says this I believe she doesn’t mean that Maycomb is the most safe but they are the people that are most scared of doing what’s right. “ I simply want to tell you that there are some men in this world who were born to do our unpleasant jobs for us. Your father is one.” This quotation indicates that Miss Maudie believes that Atticus is that right person for the job due to the fact that he chooses to do the right thing even if people don’t agree with it. The use of “us” in the quotation indicates that Miss Maudie thinks there may be  others that would like to be brave like Atticus but may be afraid of other people judging them and being cast out from the rest of the society.
